What is Search Engine Optimisation?
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is time-consuming but of course if your website is hard to find it might as well not exist! This is where SEO comes in, to ensure that you get the best out of your website.
Unfortunately it isn't a one-off exercise although a website with good SEO structure will only need light tweaks on a regular basis to keep it performing well in search engine queries.
What you can do
We encourage our clients to gain a basic understanding of SEO and provide them with detailed information. In this way, it will keep your costs down through ensuring that our SEO involvement is focused on the aspects that you can't touch or would find very difficult.
Consistent use of keywords
Type into Google, Yahoo, Bing or your chosen search engine the words you’d use yourself to find your products or services. Try a few variations and see what comes back. This should give you a feel for what keywords best describe what you are offering.
If you jot down these groups of 1, 2 or 3 search terms these can be your “keywords”. Keywords will be generic where they span a number of products or specific to one product of course. You then allocate these keywords to web pages.
Keywords must be consistently used. So “dog” is different to “dogs” for example. Search engines know there is a relationship but it is all about matching the word used in the search against the words in your web page and related words have a lower weighting.
